Four Factors to Consider When Looking for a Gym

Four Factors to Consider When Looking for a Gym

As we look forward to celebrating the new year, approximately 50 percent of Americans will make a New Year's Resolution.  Many set goals for fitness or weight loss, leading to the search for a gym. The following are factors to consider before you sign up for a membership:

1.  Consider your needs and interests.  A huge gym with 12 tennis courts is great, unless you have zero interest in tennis.  Do you really need a gym that offers 50 classes a week?  Or, do you know you will simply combine weights and aerobic machines to meet your goals?

2.  Location of the gym is also important.  It is recommended that you chose one that is within 5-7 minutes from your home or work.  Otherwise, the hassle of commuting to the gym also takes up your time, and you may end up not using your membership.

3.  It is also important to see if the gym is open during the hours that you are most likely to be able to go workout.  Many gyms are now open 24 hours a day, making it accessible for many.

4.  Another factor to consider is maintenance and cleanliness.  It's frustrating to have to limitations on the number of machines available due to machines being "out of order" for a lengthy period.  A well maintained gym that is also clean sets an environment that is healthy, which is especially important during the cold and flu season.

I have belonged to many gyms, both big and small.  Anytime Fitness in Granite Bay, CA is the best gym we have ever belonged to.  The environment is welcoming, the owners and members are friendly, the machines are well maintained, and it is consistently very clean.  The gym plays appropriate music, and has individual televisions at each aerobic machine.  It is also safe.  I once saw a member go find the person who left behind their Bose headphones, for example.  You don't have to worry about your valuables like you do in some gyms.  The gym is available 24 hours a day, and we hear people joke about coming to the gym to work through insomnia. The other bonus is that, as a member, you can also go to any other Anytime Fitness gym when you travel.

As you look for a gym, I hope you consider these important factors and find a gym that fits your needs and sets you on a path to success.
